Young’s Seafood last week hosted a fact-finding visit by Rt. Hon Rosie Winterton MP, Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber.
Ms Winterton met with key executives at Young’s headquarters in Grimsby, to find out more about the business and its parent company, the Findus Group. Young’s, together with its sister business in the Group, The Seafood Company, together produce about 40% of all the seafood consumed in Britain each year.
The Minister also learnt more about the Group’s award-winning seafood sustainability initiative, Fish for Life, and toured Young’s South Quay factory, home to Britain’s favourite ready meal, Young’s Admiral’s Pie. She was also accompanied on the visit by the MP for Great Grimsby, Austin Mitchell.
Steve Lidgett, operations director of Young’s said, “It was a pleasure to meet the Minister and introduce her to our business. The visit was a great opportunity to brief a senior member of the Government and demonstrate the industry-leading expertise that we have here in Grimsby, now home not just to Young’s but to one of Europe’s leading food groups.”
Rosie Winterton said:
“I was really pleased to visit Grimsby and to see first hand the operations and scope of one of the region’s top companies. I was very impressed hearing from Young’s about their approach to sustainability and the environment, to innovation, and particularly their commitment to training within their workforce.
“We are all facing difficult economic times but it is vital that employers across the Humber recognise that there will be an upturn and in order that they are best placed to take advantage of this, businesses need to continue to invest in skills of their employees.”
